The stories behind our Christmas cards

Cancer doesn’t stop at Christmas and it can be a bittersweet season for many young people when cancer has turned their lives upside down. To ensure no young person faces cancer alone this Christmas, we have released a special pack of Christmas cards created by talented young artists who are part of CanTeen.

Each card has a personal story to tell.

Amelia’s is about traveling with her family and not letting cancer stop her from celebrating life.  Anna’s, whose sister was diagnosed with leukemia, is all about celebrating Christmas and the summer season.

Many of the cards are inspired by unique New Zealand nature. Courtland’s card features the keruru bird and pohutukawa flowers, while Raiatea’s shows a Kiwi wrapped as a present. The country’s trees, birds and plants are illustrated in Soni’s card too, while Emily has stylishly integrated her design of New Zealand flora with French rococo curves.

There are cards that symbolise memories held dear.

Munrith’s, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour at fourteen, tells of love, strength and support between loved ones facing cancer. Rachel’s, who along with her brother was supported by CanTeen, paints a portrait of all things she misses about New Zealand as she lives thousands of miles away in London.

For every young person CanTeen helps, there is another we can’t. Our nationwide services are provided free of charge, but with no Government funding we rely on generous supporters like you.

Help us be there for young people facing cancer this festive season – purchase your pack here or donate today.
