CanTeen Connect App

CanTeen Connect App

The CanTeen Connect app launched in 2020 to provide 24/7 support for rangatahi impacted by cancer across Aotearoa and Australia.

The CanTeen Connect app is an evolution of the web-based online support service provided to rangatahi in both countries as a result of a strategic partnership between CanTeen Aotearoa and its Australian counterpart.

CanTeen Aotearoa CEO Nick Laing says the app was developed in response to demand from rangatahi and complements the other face-to-face services and events, which the organization recently re-started following the COVID-19 lockdown.

“The CanTeen Connect app means rangatahi now have vital support at their fingertips, regardless of where they live,” he said.

The app brings to life via iOS and Android smartphones and is available in the App Store and Google Play across Aotearoa and Australia.

Developed in deep consultation with the rangatahi Canteen supports, the app shares all the features of the Canteen Connect website, including;

  • the ability to connect with others of the same age;
  • joining conversations and chats;
  • attending fun and helpful online activities and events; and
  • accessing counselling via phone or live chat.

Maddy Boyd, a member of CanTeen Connect’s youth leadership group whose Dad died of cancer, says; “Cancer doesn’t care whether you have a laptop and a good wifi connection, or whether it’s 2am and you can’t get to sleep. Bringing this app to life will help young people connect with others in similar situations the minute they feel they need support.”
