Meet Riki

From the moment a young person hears the word ‘cancer’ to long past remission, CanTeen’s Psychosocial Support Workers and Youth Workers provide the specialist support needed for young people to come to terms with the emotional and practical toll of cancer in adolescence.

One thing Youth Workers like Riki do is make sure there are plenty of opportunities for young people to socialise and connect with others their own age living with cancer, so they don’t feel isolated and alone.  And while having a lot of fun at the same time!

She says: “A huge part of my role is organising events for young people which provide opportunities to make new connections and to have fun.

“These events take a lot of time to coordinate and organise and we try to remove all barriers for a young person to attend, like cost, transport etc. And while it is a fair bit of work, seeing the young people’s smiles at the events is priceless.

“My favourite thing about working at CanTeen is seeing young people navigate this thing called life despite the presence and impact of cancer.”

Please donate today to ensure our Youth Workers, like Riki, are able to support every young person impacted by cancer in New Zealand.
