Manawatu Branch Move

Manawatu Branch Move

CanTeen has 14 branches throughout New Zealand to ensure support is nearby for every young person who needs it, when they need it. Our branches provide safe, local spaces for young people to connect with other CanTeen members living with cancer, or to receive one-to-one support from their Youth Support Coordinator.

In early November, the CanTeen Manawatu branch moved to a wheelchair-accessible building. This opens up access to members who have limited mobility, often as a result of their cancer treatment. This move would not have been possible without the generous support of Awapuni Rotary, who are subsidising the rent.

“I am so excited that we are now in an environment that is inclusive of all people who want and need to access our service,” says Karen Woodfield, CanTeen Youth Support Coordinator of the Manawatu branch. “When people are living with cancer, there are so many obstacles and hurdles that they already have to circumnavigate.  Removing the access barriers so people can now come into a disability-friendly and safe environment not only eases their daily choices, but gives them a place where they can belong.  Thank you to Awapuni Rotary for believing in us and making it possible”.

Sponsorship was also received from Fonterra for a storage shed, and from Konica Minolta and PPS movers, who moved office items for free.

The new address of CanTeen Manawatu branch is 450 Ferguson St, 4410 Palmerston North. Full contact details can be found under https://www.canteen.org.nz/contact/.
