Getting life back on track

CanTeen has been supporting young people living with cancer for 30 years, providing them with the support they need to get their lives back on track.

When cancer disrupts their education or career, because they miss crucial schooling or have impairment from cancer treatment that means significant life changes, young people can apply to CanTeen for a financial grant for training, tutoring or educational equipment.

“CanTeen helped me get my life back on track,” Liam said.

Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma when he was 20, chemotherapy permanently affected Liam’s eyesight and he had to give up his career as a painter. “A lot changed after treatment. I felt really lost as to how I could move on with my life.”

With CanTeen’s help, Liam was able to fund new glasses and a laptop. These helped him in his day-to-day life, allowing him to kickstart a new apprenticeship as a print finisher in a book binding company. “Things are really good now,” he said. “The laptop and glasses hugely benefit my day-to-day living. Without the laptop I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with the work load that the apprenticeship required.”

These grants are funded through the support of Warehouse Stationery and their customers. Their generous contribution ensures young people like Liam catch up on lost ground and get their lives back on track after cancer.

The latest funding round for CanGrow grants is open from 14 November to 5 December 2018. Find out more here.
