Flights over the Abel Tasman
For the third year in a row, the Motueka Aero Club helped young people from all over the South Island escape the daily struggles cancer brings by providing a day of fun including special scenic flights over the Abel Tasman.
Aero Club President Kevin Forster said it was great to give the group a good experience: “It’s all about putting back into the community and a bit of light in someone’s day.”
For young people living with cancer, it’s a chance to connect with others in a similar boat, to escape the daily stresses that cancer brings and experience something positive and thrilling.
Tori Giles, 17, from Christchurch was just getting over her fourth chemotherapy treatment, and though she knew no one when she got on the bus from Christchurch, it wasn’t long before she was part of the group.
“It’s good to be around people who understand, which is the big thing for me because I don’t know anyone else that’s going through this kind of thing.”
