Hope for the future

The impact of cancer on young people’s health is known, but what is often forgotten is how it impacts other aspects of their life, like their career.

With the support of our corporate partner Hays – recruitment experts – CanTeen runs CanCareer to help prepare young people for the workforce. Using Hays’ skills and experience we teach CV writing, interview skills and encourage young people to apply for what is often their first job after cancer.

Having recently joined CanTeen, Marcus Laurie Regional Manager – Auckland Northland was one of the facilitators for CanCareer in April. Marcus told us, it was great to be part of empowering young people to take those first steps towards moving beyond cancer. He worked alongside Hays staff and the young people, to not only build up these necessary skills to get them work ready, but to gain confidence in navigating the gap they often have in their CV – work experience and education – because of cancer.

CanCareer empowers young people to get their first jobs or to move into new careers. CanCareer has given young people that boost they need to get their careers started and the long-term skills to continue on their journey.
