2011 design.
My brother was diagnosed in 2000 with Neuroblastoma. I was eight
years old and he was ten. My parents sat me down and told me, but
being eight I did not really understand. I remember visiting David
and my mum at Wellington Hospital every weekend he was there and
staying at the Ronald McDonald house across the road.
David always had a smile on his face, especially when he was
doing something he loved, such as playing football.
A year later on October 13th David passed away after
a year of fighting. He was 3 weeks shy of his twelfth birthday. It
was hard moving on without him. All my life I looked up to
him and then all of a sudden he wasn't there.
I got involved with CanTeen when I was 13, I am now 19 and
CanTeen means the world to me. CanTeen provided me with people who
knew exactly how I was feeling and what I was going through. I love
CanTeen and everything they have done for me. I have made amazing
life-long friends in CanTeen who I will never forget.
I designed my bandanna not long after the February Christchurch
earthquake. I was so inspired with how New Zealand came together in
times of need to help out our fellow Christchurch people. So the
hands represent New Zealand coming together as one and the New
Zealand obviously represents New Zealand.
