Zach Milliken

Zach Milliken

Zach Milliken (16) passed away at Christchurch Hospital on Thursday 20 August.  Zach is from Nelson and had been in Christchurch for nearly a year having treatment.

Zach was passionate about dirt biking, he was a big fan of Top Gear (we spent a lot of time debating the true identify of "The Stig"…..), and he loved a good cream bun (fresh cream not mock cream) and pizza.

When he was well, we got a peek at Zach's mischevious side and this was evident a couple of days before Prue's wedding when he thought that I could take the rubber off the windscreen wipers on the cars of guests at the wedding and pretend it was the keas……….

My lasting memory of Zach is his ability to tell everyone what he liked and what he didn't, this is something he maintained into his final hours.

Zach, you gave me irreplaceable, unconditional love. Who will be my travel companion, my spell check, my fun friend, my future, my solid rock? Who will encourage and believe in me? I  am extremely proud of you. Your warm smile, compassion, exceptance and strength have enriched many. My tall, calm, cuddly, creative, determined, hard working, muso, environmenalist son
THANKS SOOOO MUCH FOR COMING!!!!
love eternally

Mum (Pamela)

  • Thinking of you often.

Pam, Josh and I talk about you and Zach often and wonder how you are doing. We remember your smiling face around CHOC ward and how you were so concerned for Josh and Jake when Zach passed. Zach was an amazing young man and a real credit to you. I hope life is treating as well Pam. Take care and feel very proud of the gorgeous Son you so loving raised.

  • An Inspirational Student

I was blessed to have teaching time with Zach on his long journey in hospital in 2009 & 2010. Zach continued his learning daily when he could. He was an inspiration to me and others! Zach was a fun and charismatic young man to be alongside. We shared fond memories of Nelson and our College together.
