  • You're amazing.

You are amazing. You stare into the face of this disease every day and beat it. It will not pull you down. It can't. Your spirit is too strong for that. And the love that surrounds you, that you feel, it feeds your strength. Many people go through life never really knowing love, but not you. You may be young, but you'll beat this bastard and be stonger for it. You are and always will be, amazing.

  • my big sister, the absence of the golden smile.

i am the second eldest of 4 girls but grew up one of 5. throughout my entire life i had 2 elder sisters, one was blood related and the other was as good as. Reena, was my sisters best friend, had been since they were 2 years old, and had been in my life from the very start. what i do remember myself from the summer of 2010 is Reena going to the doctors with an on going common cough and cold, she was sent for blood tests and days later diagnosed with Leukemia. Cancer, my world fell apart. She immediatly undergan extensive chemo-therapy treatment and lost all of hher beautiful hair. my sister, Harriet, told Reena that no matter what - they would make it to prom together - and they did. Reena was the celebrity guest and looked stunning, and my sister had never been so proud in her life. After prom our families met and agreed that now the first milestone was out of the way we would focus on Reena's treatment and ensure a speedy recovery. After i left, Reena had a serious stroke, and became paralysed throughout her entire left hand side. The beautiful smile she had become known for throughout the city fell and became lobsided. But still, Reena continued to fight. Her treatments were exhausting her, and visiting her was traumatic for all involved. Watching my big sister deteriorate, slowly was something non of my friends, teachers or distant family could understand. The girl i used to run around the garden with playing mums and dads, dance for our local troop with, shop with, cry with and laugh with was snatched and instead a stranger took her place that only had the same name. She didn't look the same, sound the same or even feel the same. Reena died 8 months after being diagnosed. She didn't give up fighting her cancer, instead she didn't want to be living a life where she couldn't walk, dance or even lift her own arms without support. Since then, my family, my school, my friends, my dance troop and my city together have raised over £40, 000 for TEENAGE CANCER TRUST, which supported our family financinally, emotionally and physichally throughout the whole process. CanTeen, you do phenominal work. Each and every CanTeen'er should be proud, your all inspirational.

  • CANTEEN SUPPORTER

I admire young cancer members, as nothing seems to get them down. I have never had the experience of living with cancer and i cannot imagine how it feels, but i DO know that it takes a great amount of positivity to overlook the downs in your life.. it makes me value life SOOO much more, I'm currently working for Canteen in Auckland and previously helped in selling the Canteen Bandannas. I find it an absolute PRIVILEDGE to be selling christmas cards on your behalf and i wouldn't have it any other way. =)

  • To Hannah Josephson

Hi Hannah. You may not have ever even seen me at the Labour Weekend camp last year to know who I am, but I remember seeing you. You would have to be one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. You wanted everyone to know you still love Jesus, even though your life is far from being the way you'd like it to be.

  • The C word- (Courage, Cuddles and Care)

In the last week my 17 year old sister has been diagnosed with non-hodgkin Lymphoma or as we call it the C word. I am absolutely grateful that their is an organisation such as canteen who help young people to deal with such a harrowing ordeal, as a family we look forward to getting behind you all as we now experience what it is like to live this journey. I am so proud of my sister and how she has been so brave & strong. I wish every young person dealing with cancer all the love and support, best wishes and courage. You are all an inspiration. The C word-courage, cuddles and care.

You have my real respect as like you I suffer from a very dangerous disability known as Epilepsy!!! I know cancer is 100% worse but I know that you get left out of a lot of things because of your disability as was I!!! Never give up hope of having your life changed as you never know when it might happen!!!
