Whether its the loss of a loved one, the life you once had or just your hair, you need skills to help you deal positively with grief.
These experiences may result from the death of family or CanTeen
members or they may involve the loss of health, independence,
confidence, education, employment, friends, limbs, fertility, hair
or the teenage years through cancer. The aim of the two day course
is to provide friendship and support for young people who are
grieving and to provide information about normal grief reactions
and strategies for coping with significant loss and change.
The workshop will help you understand...
- That grief and difficult times are a normal and natural part of
living.
- That everyone experiences difficult times in different
ways.
- How young people experience stressful situations.
- What helps and what hinders during difficult times.
- How to be comfortable with other people.
Your whole world is turned upside down, it is so hard
to put into words the mix of emotions that you feel. You keep
thinking why my child. But even though your heart is so broken you
will find strength and the love and support you will receive from
your family and friends will astound you.

REAL is held for CanTeen members four times per year and
more, if the demand is there.
Check the Events Section to see when the next REAL
workshop is.
REAL made the passing of my brother in September last
year easier to cope with. Finding out that I am not alone, others
are experiencing grief' themselves, and I don't just mean the grief
of someone passing away but also the change in their lifestyles,
moving from their homes, losing 'friends' because they don't
understand.
