Brain tumors
There are many different types of brain tumors. The most common tumors grow from glial cells (support cells in the brain), these include Astrocytomas, Oligodendrogliomas and Gliobalstoma mulitforme.
Incidence
More common in early childhood, with incidence rate decreasing throughout adolescence. Accounts for 10% of adolescent cancers.
Treatment
Some brain tumors are more serious than others and will require more aggressive therapy. Treatment for most brain tumors includes surgically removing the tumor. Results of the surgery will affect further treatment including radiotherapy and possibly combination chemotherapy.
Follow up
It is difficult to summarise a follow up process or cure rate, due to the different types of brain tumors. Some of the more common types of brain tumors have a 75% survival rate.
