The who’s who on the medical team...


  • Medical Paediatric Oncologist – a doctor specialising in diagnosing cancer that looks after patients and their cancer treatment.
  • Radiation Oncologist – a doctor specialising in radiation to treat cancer. This doctor will decide if radiation is an appropriate treatment, will choose the best form of radiation treatment as well administer and monitor it.
  • Surgical Oncologist – a doctor specialising in operations as a form of cancer treatment.
  • Radiologist – a specialist that interprets X-rays, computerized axial tomography (CAT) scans and other medical tests such as MRI scans to get pictures of the body.
  • Oncology Nurse Specialist – a registered nurse with additional education and specialist training in cancer.
  • Register Nurse – a nurse that provides regular care in the hospital or in the outpatient clinic.

  • Social Worker – a trained professional that helps patients and their family adjust to life with cancer.
  • Dietitian – a registered professional that provides information about nutritional needs.
  • Clinical Psychologist – a professional therapist to assist with intellectual and emotional well-being throughout treatment.
  • Pharmacist – a registered professional that is knowledgeable about drugs and chemicals that complement cancer treatment.
