Meet the board

Matt Truman

Matt Truman

President

Hi my name is Matt Truman. I was diagnosed in 1999 with a brain tumour and consequently lost a lot of my sight, I have been an active member since that time. I have recently completed a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing and Maori Language. I am currently looking at starting my own business and overcoming the challenges that that presents. CanTeen has given me a lot over the years and I am really enjoying the opportunity to give back. My interests include music (I play the guitar), going to the gym and living life to the full. I enjoy long walks along the beach, romantic sunsets and moonlit dinners (as you can see I also like to have a laugh).

Andrew Maud

Andrew Maud

Vice President

I became a member of CanTeen when I was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2004. After recovering from treatment in 2005 I became involved with the Auckland Committee and was elected the Auckland Board Representative in 2006. I have completed a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting and finance, and am working for a public practiced accounting firm in Auckland. In addition to this I also partake in various sports including soccer, waterpolo, squash and surfing.

Hamish O'Connor

Hamish O'Connor

Central Rep

I have been part of CanTeen Wellington for six years. In this time, I have been on the Wellington committee as a general member for three years before taking on the role of Vice-President and then President. I have participated in all sorts of national programmes, including three New Zealand National Camps, Good Grief, TeenLink, Leadership Weekends, and was chosen to represent CanTeen New Zealand at the Australian National Camp in 2004. I would say that this extended involvement with CanTeen equips me very well to be able to have a say in how CanTeen provides member services. Over the past seventeen months, I have been participating in a leadership course with Excelerator, the New Zealand Leadership Institute, along with 59 others on a course called Future Leaders. We were chosen as a result of not only our actions to date, but also for what our intentions were in our chosen area. Mine were to extend myself within CanTeen and offer more to ensure CanTeen provides better services to its members on an ongoing basis.

I have been a sibling member of CanTeen since 2000. During that time I have been involved at various levels within the organisation, having held positions of Vice President and President of Waikato/Bay of Plenty/East Cape Division. I am currently studying Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management at Waikato University. In between CanTeen, university and stopping to breathe, I have a "darling" 3 year old daughter who keeps me on my toes.

Erica Donovan

Erica Donovan

Otago/Southland Rep

My name is Erica Donovan and I have been a member of CanTeen for four and a half years, and have been involved at national level with a position of Vice-president at Dunedin branch for one year. I have also been involved with the committee and a member of committee groups. This has given me the necessary skills to know about the functions and policies of the organization as well as helping with the structure. I am currently the co-editor of a small community newspaper.

Dion Mortensen

Business Governance

Hi my name is Dion and I am a new adult member on CanTeen’s Board. My skills lie in the areas of strategic planning, organizational development & governance. I spend a lot of my time mentoring entrepreneurs and leaders and working with owners and Boards of startup and small to medium sized businesses in NZ. I really like the idea that CanTeen is run by its membership. I think that this contributes greatly to CanTeen’s own special kind of energy and vitality – I am drawn to that. Balance is very important to me so I make sure that I schedule enough time to spend with friends and family. I have always been very active and involved in sports of some kind, these days I am into; rock climbing, mountain biking, squash and indoor football.

I am the immediate past chairman for CCF and am currently the chairman of the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations.
